In my ongoing PhD research, I am investigating the connection between translators’ empathy and their target audience orientation. Although empathy as a concept is not new in Translation Studies (TS), empirical research into empathy is almost completely lacking, and there is a lot of uncharted territory waiting to be explored and mapped. So what, exactly, is meant by empathy?
